Jean Sanders Piper, age, 83 of Taylor Mill, died Monday, September 6, 2010 at Hospice of St. Elizabeth in Edgewood. She was the retired Senior Office Manager for Life of Virginia Insurance Company. Ms. Piper was a member of the Women of the Moose, a former sales agent for Avon, and enjoyed her swimming pool, the Reds, Bengals, & U.K. Her husband, Robert Piper, preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include 3 daughters, Brenda Meyer of Edgewood; Beverly Stewart of Independence; and Tina Knapp of Sparta; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. Interment will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery in Taylor Mill. Memorials can be made to St Elizabeth Medical Center Women's Wellness Breast Center or charity of choice.

John Bishop

John Lewis Bishop, age 88, of Elsmere (formerly of Latonia) died Saturday, September 4 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare of Edgewood. He was a retired Brakeman for Chessie Railroad systems and a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Bishop enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. His wife, Hannah Bishop, and daughter, Carole Dodd preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter Sally Wright of Walton; (6) grandchildren; and (4) great grandchildren. Vistation will be Wednesday, September 8 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs in Independence. Funeral services will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Harold Douglas Bowman, age 82 of Morning View, died Saturday, September 4 at his residence. He was a retired Machinist for Cincinnati Milacron and the former proprietor of Jones Liquor Store in Covington. Mr. Bowman was a member of Morning View United Methodist Church and the Bradford Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his special friend, Freida Houston of Morning View; daughter, Linda Netherly of Independence; son, Harold Douglas Houston of Covington; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Chambers & Grubbs in Independence. Funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery. Clifford Harry McManama, age 77 of Independence, died Thursday, September 2 at his residence. Mr. McManama was a truck driver for the Local 100 Teamsters of Cincinnati and a member of St. Patrick’s church. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory McManama in 1996, daughter, Katie McManama in 2005, and great granddaughter, Josephine Gregory in 2002. Survivors include his wife Fran Glaza McManama, daughters, Sherry Bayer of Dayton OH, and Jennifer Wirth of Union;sons, Wayne McManama of Jonesville, and Eric McManama of Independence;brother John McManama of Florence; (18) grandchildren and (13) great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 3280 Mills Road, Covington, KY 41015-2480 . Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11a.m. at the church. Pauline Boggs Napier, age 73 of Independence, died Thursday, September 2 at Baptist Village Care Center in Erlanger. Mrs. Napier was a homemaker who enjoyed shopping, cooking and being with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Napier in 1998, and sons, Gary Napier as a newborn and Keith Napier in 2007. Survivors include daughters, Gail Burklo of Union and Regina Napier of Independence; son, Terry Napier of Independence; sisters Ruby Armin of OK and Margaret Eldridge of Taylor Mill; brothers, Oscar Boggs of Phoenix, AZ, Lewis Boggs of Annville, KY, and Eddie Boggs of Franklin, OH; and 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. Her funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A homemaker, she is survived by husband Bud Goecke, son Adam Goecke, Crittenden, sister, Rebecca Taylor, Crittenden, brothers Doug Durr, Dry Ridge, Robbie Durr, Dry Ridge and Marshall Durr, Clarksville, Tn., 2 grandsons, Ashton and Payton Goecke, Crittenden; her parents Robert and Janet Durr and several nieces and nephews. Lewis Elbert “Jeff” Williams, age 76, of Morning View, died Monday August 30, 2010 at Hospice of St. Elizabeth in Edgewood. He was a retired self employed truck driver and a member of Sherman Full Gospel Church in Sherman, KY. Mr. Williams was the former Fire Chief of Piner Volunteer Fire Department and helped support Piner Booster basketball. Survivors include his wife, Donna Jean Menefee Williams; (2) sons, Jeffrey A. Williams of Independence and Todd Williams of Morning View; and daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Hubbard of Morning View; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A visitation will be Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs of Independence. The funeral services will be Thursday, September 2, at 10 a.m. also at the funeral home. Mr. Williams will be laid to rest at Gardnersville Cemetery in Demossville, KY. She is preceded in death by her husband William Sowers in 2007. She is survived by daughters Debbie Gayle Morris, Elsmere and Connie Jean Paden, Raleigh, N.C. and sons William Robert Sowers, Ky. and Jeffrey Garnett Sowers, Burlington; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Services will be at Chambers & Grubbs Florence. Visitation will be Monday, August 30 from 4-8pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 am. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Ethel W. Rom of Brooksville, formerly of Latonia, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Rom enjoyed playing bingo and was a former cashier with Kroger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Rom in 1995. Mrs. Rom is survived by 2 daughters, Krista Phillips of Milford, OH and Cheryl Rom of Brooksville; 4 sons, David Trutschel of Burlington, Robert Rom of Delhi, OH, Michael Rom of Covington, and Dan Rom of Brooksville; 2 sisters, Emily Phinney of Latonia and Gayle Reed of Little Rock, AR; a brother, Bob Elliot of Kiln, MS; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchidren. A visitation for Mrs. Rom will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010 from 11am - 1pm at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home of Independence with the funeral service following at 1pm. Mrs. Rom will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.
