Being a friend of John’s, I had the privilege of meeting his parents later in life. Violet Praither was a force of nature. I thoroughly enjoyed hiking through Manassas Battlefield with her and her sister Helen. She was from that greatest of generations that saved the world. They fought and died on the battlefield, kept the home fires burning, and continued raising families under trying circumstances that successive generations cannot imagine. Those bright lights are few in number now. Violet is now a brilliant light blazing in Heaven right along with Charles. Her wisdom, wit, and perseverance through hardship are an example for us all. She finally got her wings after more than a century here on earth. I will miss her. She made the world a better place.
