Obituary of Larry Warner
Larry Dean Warner age 82, of Union, KY passed to his long home in Heaven on the early afternoon of December 27, 2024. He was cozy in his home with the love of his life, Blondie, and the ones who mean so much to him- his family.
Larry was born in Covington, KY to Alexander Dean Warner and Virginia Katherine (Struve). It was in Northern Kentucky where he and his siblings grew up together. Attending Boone County and Holmes High School he made many friends and was easy to love. Larry had an excellent disposition about him. He was the perfect blend of a leader, humorous, heartwarming, and had a dose of “mischief-maker”. As a teen, Larry was employed by Mr. Nelson Markesbery at his moving company where he earned his way from weekend helping hand to eventually owner and operator where he retired. Larry served our country honorably in the United States Army. He jokingly shared with friends that he couldn’t stay out of trouble, so he always found his way to serving KP (Kitchen Police) duty with the cooks on base. After coming home from the service, Larry returned to serving his neighbors and community in the moving and storage business.
In 1971 Larry wed Sharon (Newhall) and they shared a life of their own. Larry would provide for her in every aspect. Many times he would deliver a casserole that she had prepared or helped meet other needs for a member at the Big Bone Baptist Church. She would serve right alongside him through their now, family business- Nelson Markesbery Moving and Storage. They raised four sons, devoting time and (tough) love into countless youth sports teams, shooting on the family property, and instilling virtues that can never be erased.
Larry was promoted to Pawpaw to six grandchildren. He poured his time into the kids taking them on ranger rides, picking them up from school, going golfing, and trips to Rabbit Hash, and showing up to their events. Lovingly, he would say, “You’re wearing me out”, before gearing up for another adventure.
Winter will remain a special time of year for his family as Larry loved Christmas time. He took the energy to handwrite letters to his family each year, sharing memorable events and the pride he had in each of them. Often, he would cook up a big meal of fried chicken, biscuits and gravy or throw meat on the grill- a gift he learned from his time in the military.
He was a hero. He gave of himself fully. “If you’re going to do something, you may as well do it right.” An exemplary model of a life well lived.
Left on earth to mourn his loss and celebrate a man that words do not fully catalog are his wife of 53 years, Sharon Warner (Newhall), sons; Scott Warner, Dean Warner, Bryson (Amanda) Warner, and Rhett (Amanda) Warner, grandchildren; Taylor (Jake) Carnes, Reis, Owen, Larry, Ava, and Ryleigh Warner, brother; Alex (Melody) Warner, his nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters; Diane Allen and Sheila Wrenn.
To pay tribute to Larry, a visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Big Bone Baptist Church at 11036 Big Bone Church Road, Union, KY 41091 beginning at 11:30am - 1:30pm with his service immediately to follow. Larry will be laid to rest at the Big Bone Baptist Church Cemetery.
