
Obituary of Mary JoAnn Hicks
Mary “JoAnn” Hicks, age 86, of Independence, KY passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of January 28, 2025. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on March 23, 1938; she was the daughter of George and Melva Mosher. Known to friends and family as JoAnn, she and her former husband, Charlie Hicks, owned and operated the Spinning Wheel Tavern for many years. Later she worked and retired from the IRS after 15+ years of service. JoAnn enjoyed reading and traveling. She especially enjoyed traveling to National Parks and various other scenic destinations with her sister, Leslie. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her beloved family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son; Gary (Valerie) Hicks, siblings; Melva “Cookie” Hammond, George Mosher and Leslie Trapp, as well as her grandson; Greg Hicks. JoAnn is survived by her loving children; Charles “Chaz” (Deborah Jean) Hicks Jr., Steven (Jaqueline) Hicks, Julie (John) Unthank, Brian (Laura) Hicks, and Debbie (Joel) Hicks, her siblings; Jerry Mosher and Carol Ashcraft, eleven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 11:00 am at the Independence Cemetery.
