
Obituary of Tom Bays
Tom Bays, 91, of Independence, KY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 10, 2025. On June 26, 1933, Tom was born in Knox County, KY to Laura {Goley} and Joel Bays. Tom married the love of his life, Pauline {Sturdivant}, where together they built a life full of cherished memories and shared moments, a bond that remained strong for 71 years.
In his younger years, Tom enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. Tom had a great passion for beekeeping which was one of the defining aspects of his life. Known for the many prestigious state and county awards his honey received, he became a local legend in the beekeeping community. A devout Christian, Tom was a dedicated member of New Hope Tabernacle in Independence for many years and remained actively involved in its programs and community. He was also a proud Mason with the Bradford Masonic Lodge, where he formed many lifelong friendships and contributed to the Lodge’s mission of service and fellowship.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Pauline Bays; children Ken (Beverly) Bays, Ronnie Bays, and Theresa (Mike) Martin; grandchildren Amber (Seth) Bingham, Andrea (Andy) Hummel, Elizabeth (Drew) Hugenberg, Kenneth (Cassidy) Bays, and Michael (Katelyn) Martin; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his son Daryl Bays as well as all of his siblings.
A visitation will be held between 4 PM and 7 PM on Sunday, February 16th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. Tom’s funeral service, beginning with a Masonic service, will begin at 11 AM on Monday, February 17th at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill, immediately after.
