Alma Marie Gross Obituary

Alma Marie Gross née Sebastian, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family and facility staff at Otterbein SeniorLife Neighborhood in Maineville, OH on March 4, 2025.  Born in Canoe, KY, on January 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Bradley and Eliza Jane [Richardson] Sebastian.

Like many families of the era, Alma’s family moved from rural Breathitt County, KY to Newport, KY to find greater opportunities and make a better life. Alma worked for many years at Baylis Brothers where she assembled Polly Flinders dresses.  A woman of abiding Christian faith all her life, she enjoyed reading, crocheting and watching the Cincinnati Reds on T.V.  Actor Michael J. Fox once said “Family is not an important thing. It's everything.” Alma firmly believed this with all her heart.  She cherished any time she could spend with her family, especially her sisters.

Alma was the beloved mom of Daryl (Christine) Gross; treasured grandma to Christopher “Ryan” (Crissy) Gross, David Jeffrey (Miranda) Gross, Daniel Jonathan (Allison) Gross and Michael “Mike” (Nina) Reynolds; great-grandma to Noah Ryan Gross, Madison McKinley Reynolds, Levi Shafer Gross, Hanna Grace Gross, Ezra Clay Gross, Michael Reynolds, II, and Siena Rae Gross as well as great-great grandma to Aurora Reid Reynolds and Calvin Michael Reynolds.

Alma was greeted in Heaven with open arms by her husband McKinley “Mac” Gross, son Steven Gross, daughter Teresa Reynolds, brothers John Sebastian, Alec Sebastian, Virgil Sebastian, Seymour Sebastian, Hiram Sebastian, Cletus Sebastian, Green Sebastian, as well as her dear sisters Mary Sebastian, Julia Raleigh, and Nannie McIntosh.

The visitation for Alma will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind from 11:00 AM until shortly before the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM (also at the funeral home). Directly following, Alma will be laid to rest gently and comfortably at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd, Covington, KY 41015.
