
Obituary of Bernice Speaks Moffett
Bernice Speaks Moffett, age 99, of Florence, KY, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2025, at her daughter’s residence in Union, KY. Bernice was born to Walter and Gertrude Willis Speaks on November 16, 1925, in Hazard, KY. At the age of 14 she moved to Lafollette, TN for a year and then moved to Covington, KY at the age of 16, where she met her former husband, Sam Moffett. She was a retired Housekeeper (for over ten years) for St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Covington, KY, and an excellent cook to her family (especially her pea salad and Hazard goulash). Bernice enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casinos, and smoking her not filter Kool cigarettes. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, five sisters, and one great grandchild.
Survivors include her children, Janet Bernice Fugate (Charles), Alan Moffett (Debbie), Ritchie Moffett (Orpha), and Rebecca Luken; grandchildren, Shawnna Parker (Clay), Alan Ray Moffett (Crystal), Carla Neyman (Doug), Erica Yarbrough (Jason), Terri Moffet, Jenny White, Jonny Moffett, Stephanie Swartz (Benito), and Daniel Mullins; thirteen great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, March 17, 2025, from 5 pm to 7 pm with her funeral service immediately following at 7 pm at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
