Obituary of Matthew Brian Holt
Matthew Brian Holt
October 16, 1996 – March 19, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Matthew Brian Holt, 28, of Independence, KY. A beloved father, fiancé, son, brother, and friend, Matthew’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Born and raised in Independence alongside his two sisters, Matthew was a 2015 graduate of Simon Kenton High School. He later earned a bachelors degree in Nutritional Science from Purdue University and had aspirations of pursuing a master’s degree and becoming a Registered Dietician. His passion for health and wellness extended beyond himself—he eagerly shared advice, created meal plans, and supported his friends at the gym in achieving their goals. Matthew was an advocate for men’s mental health. He posted regularly on the topic of men suffering alone in silence. His dedication to bettering the lives of those around him was a testament to his generous spirit.
An outdoorsman, Matthew found peace in hunting, and hiking- his favorite trails found at Red River Gorge. He often took long walks with his one-year-old daughter, Ivy, his fiancé, Amber, and their dog, Brody. Ivy and Brody both enjoyed listening to Dad play songs on his guitar. His greatest joy was building a future for his family, saving up to provide them with a home filled with love and security.
Faith was a cornerstone of Matthew’s life. Baptized as a child and again in his grandfather’s pond when he rededicated his life to Jesus, he carried his love for God with him always. He had recently found a church home at The Gathering Place, where he continued to strengthen his faith and seek purpose.
Matthew was also a selfless giver in life and in passing. Having made the decision to be an organ donor, he was able to enhance the lives of others—a final act of generosity that perfectly reflected the way he lived.
Though life presented its challenges, Matthew faced them with a heart full of love and a desire to provide the best for his family. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, in the wisdom he shared, and in the love he gave so freely.
He is survived by his daughter, Ivy Marie Holt; his fiancé, Amber Godfrey; his parents, Brian Holt and Tina (David Callicoat) Holt; his sisters Karina (Josh) Gross and Emily (Michael) Martin; his grandparents, Earl and Brenda Holt and Orville and Virginia Wagers; his Aunts and Uncles; Susan (Steve) Simpson, Michael Holt, Dwight (Dana Powers) Wagers, and Pam (Rodney) Baker, and many other family members and friends who will smile at his memory.
A service to honor Matthew’s life will be held at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051 on Thursday, March 27, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10:30am and funeral service at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund for Ivy by visiting a local fifth third bank and making a deposit into an account in the name of Ivy Marie Holt or by a GoFundMe account by clicking here.
Matthew’s light will never fade—his kindness, sensitivity, and faith will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
