Obituary of Anna Joyce Teague
Anna Joyce Teague, age 89, of Covington, KY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. The daughter of the late Ruby {Carnes} and George Richard Williamson, Anna was born in Dewitt, KY on November 3, 1935. She married the love of her life, Paul Teague, and went on to share 69 beautiful years together.
Born and raised in Kentucky, Anna’s passion for teaching began early. At just 18 years old, she started her career in a one-room schoolhouse in Clay County, where she taught 1st through 12th grade before eventually taking charge of a 5th & 6th grade class. She later continued her calling as a 1st grade teacher at Forest Hills Elementary School, Ryland Heights Elementary School, and finally at Whites Tower Elementary School, where she remained until her retirement. Over her 35-year career, Anna touched the lives of hundreds of students, many of whom would call her their favorite teacher.
Beyond the classroom, Anna’s life was filled with simple joys. She loved fishing, tending to her garden, sewing clothes for her family, quilting by hand, and baking — especially her cherished sourdough bread, which was loved by all who tasted it. Her home was a place of warmth, hospitality, and beautiful handmade treasures. Anna’s deep and abiding faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a proud and active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church since 1979, where she found community, comfort, and strength for over four decades.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Paul Teague; son Douglas (Penny) Teague; sister Patsy (Bill) Thomas; grandchildren Breanna Teague, Katherine Teague, and Kayla Woods; and great-grandchildren Kyler Edmondson, Brayden Jessie, and Ella Jessie. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Bill, George Richard, and Paul Williamson; as well as her sisters Lou Ella Williamson and Flora Moore.
A visitation will be held between 10 AM and 12 PM with a funeral service to begin at 12 PM on Wednesday, April 30th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. Anna will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Corbin, KY immediately after.
