Obituary of Ronnie "Wayne" Cox

Please share a memory of Ronnie "Wayne" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ronnie “Wayne” Cox, age 68 of Ft. Thomas, KY passed away on April 28, 2025 at the Hospice Care of St. Elizabeth. His family trudged through his cancer journey with him but are rejoicing that he is now pain free and with his family in heaven.

Wayne was raised with six siblings by Lewis and Cleo (Hoskins) Ward in Cincinnati, OH. As a young boy he would cut up with his brothers and sister and let his onery side show. At sixteen years old, Wayne accepted Jesus into his heart and was baptized at the Elder Missionary Baptist Church. With family he moved to Piner, KY and was most recently a neighbor in Ft. Thomas, KY. He filled his time tearing things apart and rebuilding them. A self-taught electronic technician. He was a jack of all trades. If he couldn’t fix something, you might as well throw it away.

Wayne owned and operated Taylor Mill TV and often sold TVs at the Richwood Flea Market. It was there that he discovered his greatest treasure—Sue Austin. He approached Sue for a date and has loved her for the last forty years. Wayne was dependable, he was the person you could count on in a crisis. Whether it was fixing a broken-down car, rebuilding a staircase, or rewiring a home, he did it all—with skill and with heart. He was generous with his time, his talent, and his knowledge—always ready to lend a hand or teach someone how to do it themselves.

Children and animals were naturally drawn to Wayne, sensing the warmth and security he carried. He deeply loved his family, cherishing time spent together at home. Holidays were especially meaningful—he’d prepare the meals, bake up a storm, and share his famous potato candy with those he held dear. He was a gifted cook, baker, and grill master, though his favorite snacks remained simple: a bowl of cereal, some ice cream, or a pickle.

Wayne was a truly special man—steadfast, kind, and endlessly capable. He will be missed for a lifetime.

Preceding him in death are his parents; Lewis and Cleo (Hoskins) Ward, his brothers; Bobby Bays, Rick Cox, Jimmy Hoskins, and John Hoskins, his son; Robert Austin.

Left to mourn his loss is his wife; Sue Austin, Children; Katrina (Elmer) Hammond, Rachel Cox, Cathy Austin, and Zach Downs, his brother; Mike (Joni) Bays, his sister and sisters-in-law; Judy (Butch) Lancaster, Roberta Bays, Beverly Cox, Wanda Hoskins, and Pearl Hoskins, his friend, Vickie Felts, grandchildren; Darryl, Michael, Alexis Nichole Hertzfeldt, Brandon, Lindsey, Johnathon, Christopher, Alexis Soard, Hunter, and Levi, his great grandchildren; Barry Wayne, Le’yaira, Teegan Nichole, Eloise Wren, and Colin James, nieces and nephews as well as great nieces; Dwayne, Joey, Chris, Heather, Jesse, Dylan, Caleb, Alana, John, Elizabeth, Kayla, and Addy, and many friends who he loved as family.
