James Douglas Combs, 68, better known to all who knew and loved him as “Doug,” passed away at Hospice Of Cincinnati at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH on May 15, 2025. He was born on January 24, 1957 in Fort Thomas, KY to James “J.M.” Combs and Jessie Turner Combs.
Doug was a resident of Taylor Mill, Walton, Florence and most recently, Highland Heights. He worked and retired from BaWac, Inc. as a packer and assembler. When he was young, he enjoyed shooting pool and riding motorcycles. As he transitioned into later years in life, these past times gave way and made room for new ones. He relished collecting stuff animals and shopping at yard sales; where he would buy music in all physical media formats (especially cassette tapes). When he ventured with family to Florida, he would drive around on his “wheels” (his favorite golf cart), listening to his tunes. Doug delighted in all kinds of games. He enjoyed playing Wii, the card game Uno and board games.
With a smile and demeanor that could put anyone at ease, Doug will be remembered as someone who possessed a jolly and at times, goofy spirit. He never met a stranger—he would talk to anyone, anywhere: restaurants, waiting rooms, yard sales. Wherever he was he made a new friend. Doug loved to have his photo taken; and truly, the eternal image we will carry of him with us forever is one infused with his happy-go-lucky and carefree nature.
Doug was the beloved son of Jessie Combs; dear brother to Keith (Julie) Combs and brother-in-law to George Arrowood; treasured uncle to nieces and nephews Chris (Marsha) Arrowood, Brad (Lisa) Arrowood, Katie (Josh) Helmes, Kristie (Paul) Campbell, Lauren (Michael) Gerde and Brian (Kensie) Combs as well as adored great-uncle to 10 great nieces and nephews. Doug was welcomed home by his late father J.M. Combs and late sister Janet Arrowood.
