Naomi "Memaw" Spegal Obituary

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

Ada Naomi Spegal, née Peebles, 99, was welcomed to her Heavenly home on May 31, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1926 in Erlanger, KY to Clifford Peebles and Irene Orcutt Peebles.

Naomi was a homemaker and a mother; a job we know never truly has a retirement date. A caring matriarch to everyone who knew and loved her (grandchild or otherwise), Naomi was “Memaw.”  The work of Naomi’s hands could be seen in many things. She is probably most renowned for her decorated cakes. But there was so much more—from her sewing to her bespoke (hand-stitched and assembled) quilts. Gifts for family or friends, every new mother who knew Naomi received a quilt for her baby.  What precious heirlooms these must be now.  She served the students of her community as president of the local PTA.  A woman possessing deep Christian faith, she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at Wilmington Baptist. She wished to set an example and call folks to the Lord even after her passing.  It was her wish for everyone to read the verse above and to have salvation.

Naomi was the beloved mother of Linda Dieckmann, Dennis “Jerry” Spegal (Jodi), Glenna Henry, and Ada Spegal; the dear sister of Patricia Stine; the dearest grandmother to 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren. She was greeted in Paradise by her husband Benjamin Spegal; brother David Peebles; sister Theorah Locke as well as her parents.
