Edward “Jerry” Ehlman, 87, of Piner, KY, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. The son of the late Eugene and Grace {Kendall} Ehlman, Jerry was born on January 23, 1938. Jerry graduated from Simon Kenton High School and later went on to work as a traveling diesel mechanic on tow boats for Columbia Marine Service. Afterwards, he spent 14 years repairing home appliances for Central Service.
A devoted Catholic, Jerry was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Morning View. He had a passion for farming and relaxing on his tractor. He loved to go fishing, partake in woodworking, and repairing just about anything he could get his hands on. He was in the process of restoring a 1956 Massey Ferguson Tractor. He dedicated his life to Lions Clubs International for over 35 years, serving as District Governor between the years of 1992 and 1993; he was installed in Hong-Kong. Most importantly, he was a very giving man and was greatly loved by friends and neighbors alike. He always had an interesting story to share and was known for his phrase, “We had our fun.”
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Alice “Eileen” {Lucas} Ehlman; his four daughters, Gail (Steve) Jones, Myra (Mark) Hegge, JerriLynn (Andy) Moffitt, and Leann (George) Pegg; grandchildren J.T. (Amber) Jones, Tyler (Becky) Jones, Craig (Kate) Jones, Kevin Hegge, Eric Hegge, William Moffitt, Katherine Moffitt, Dustin Pegg, Alexander (Amber) Pegg, and Tori (Jeremiah) Kone; 13 great-grandchildren; and his siblings Eugene (Carol) Ehlman, Joyce McPhee, Carol Papia, and Ginger (Al) Dorcas.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother Robert Ehlman and his sister Emily McFall.
A visitation will be held between 4 PM and 7 PM on Tuesday, June 24th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home – Independence. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 AM the following day, Wednesday, June 25th at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church. Jerry will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery following his service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 and/or to Shriners Children’s Hospitals, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
