William Roe Shelton Obituary

William Roe Shelton passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at the age of 87 with his family at his side.


Bill lived a full life influencing others through his actions, his unwavering love, and constant support.


Born on March 19, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Max and Dorothy Shelton, Bill enjoyed his childhood on his family farm. Bill attended college at Eastern Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree before serving his country honorably as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army.


Bill moved to Cincinnati where he earned his Master of Education Degree from Xavier University.


Bill spent a majority of his career within the Covington Independent School District where he served as a teacher, coach, Vice Principal and Principal. He retired from education in 1994 after 27 years.


Bill was an avid fisherman and made sure his kids knew how to bait a hook. He was a fan of college football, traveling and the Cincinnati Reds.


He was also an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia, KY, for over 30 years.


Most of all, Bill’s quick wit and infectious laugh made being near him a good time.


William leaves behind his former wife and dear friend; Carole (nee. Lanius) Shelton, children; Becky (nee. Shelton) Haskin, Ben (Stacey) Shelton, and Sarah (Luke Darpel) Shelton, siblings; Cathy Rich and Jim (Conchetta) Shelton, grandchildren; Evelyn, Max, Allison, Nathan, Jesse, Lily, Iris, and Sam; great-grandchildren Hudson, Harper, and Hadley, as well as many friends and extended family.


Please join his family on Wednesday, July 23rd at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home at 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Visitation to begin at noon and services at 2:00pm. Bill will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery immediately following the service.
