George Louis Meiman Obituary

George Louis “Whitey” Meiman, 94, of Independence, KY, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Provision Living at Crown Ridge in Walton. A man with a gentle spirit, a dependable heart, and hands that could fix just about anything, George lived a life full of purpose, pride, and deep devotion to the people he loved.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran and retired Maintenance Foreman for Newport Steel, George never really hung up his toolbelt. If something was broken, he was the one you called. From woodworking projects to tending his garden, he had a knack for creating and nurturing — whether it was a perfectly built cabinet or a perfectly timed pep talk from the bleachers.

But more than his skills or hobbies, George's greatest joy was his family. He was a familiar face at countless games, school events, and family gatherings, always there with a smile and sometimes a few gentle words of wisdom. He was a true cheerleader for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rarely missing a chance to be present in their lives.

A longtime member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Independence Senior Center, George enjoyed the simple pleasures of friendship, community, and a good laugh.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Wilson) Meiman; his son, Mitchell Meiman; his parents, Lawrence and Marie Meiman; and his siblings, Lawrence “Duke” Meiman, Loretta Lightner, and Mary Berkemeier.

Left to carry on his legacy are his daughters, Shelly Cook (Pat) and Lori Lucas (Tony); his daughter-in-law, Judy Meiman; his sister, Emma Bramlage (Don); his grandchildren, Lindsey Capek (Michael), Ashley McGill (Andy), Drew Lucas (Cheryl), and Chad Lucas; his step-grandchildren, Sarah Combs (Kyle) and Anita Bernard (Rick); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Micah and Sadie Capek, Lincoln and Landon McGill, Ada and Claire Lucas; along with step-great-grandson, Levi Rillo.

Private family services will be held, and George will be laid to rest at St. Cecilia Cemetery in Independence.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  To leave the family a message of condolence, please go to www.chambersandgrubbs.com.
