Hugh Terry Kemp of Independence, KY, was born in Aurora, IN, and passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2025. He was the dedicated father of Brian Kemp (Angela) and grandfather to Madison Connaughton (Tim) Ezekiel Kemp (Sky) and Malachi Kemp. Terry was also a beloved great-grandfather to Kiel Kemp and Lorelei Connaughton. He also had many “adopted” children over the years from friends of his son, Brian as well as “bonus” grandkids over time due to his loving heart and true selflessness. He raised them right and put fear into them all to keep them on the right track!!  There are countless others that cared for him over time, truly loving him beyond words.

Terry was a loyal and dedicated over the road conductor of CSX Railroad. He retired after years of service in 2008. He also valiantly served the United States as an Army ranger in Vietnam.  Even as a young man, he fought for our country to make a change in the world as soon as he could. He fought to make a better life for his family and their future. 

Terry was a lover of NASCAR and flying planes. He got his pilot’s license back in the day to be able to fly the friendly skies! He loved to start multiple projects (even though he may not have always finished them). He never dismissed his dreams. Terry was a keeper of all things, but never wanted to give up on finishing, no matter how much time went by or how many restrictions tried to stop him. He never wanted to give up on anything! Terry had so much love for his family. Truly, his long term goal in life was for them to have a prosperous life. Terry will be forever remembered and dearly missed. ❤️

Terry will be laid to rest with full military honors at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, 205 Eibeck Ln., Williamstown, KY, 41097 on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM.

Following the interment, there will be a Celebration Of Life starting at 5:00 PM at 12174 Bethel Grove Rd., Visalia, KY, 41015. Feel free to bring a side dish or dessert and your own drinks. We will cook out and have a few bites while sharing stories and memories of Terry.
