Peggy Swinford Kendall McNeil, age 89, of Burlington, KY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, KY. Peggy spent her working years serving others — first as a telephone operator for Cincinnati Bell, later as a local real estate agent and finally, she served as a Tax Clerk for the Boone County Sheriff’s Department where she retired after 22 years of service — but her true life’s work was being the heart of her family. She loved a good card game, a favorite Elvis, Conway Twitty or Statler Brothers song playing in the background, and the joy of travel — whether to Yellowstone, the Great Lakes of Minnesota, Gatlinburg, down the road to visit friend's or often to a ball game where she would cheer on her son or grandchildren, she was always ready to go. For years, Peggy happily served as the family chauffeur, loading up kids, gear, and snacks to make sure no game or event was ever missed. Peggy adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was never shy about sharing just how proud she was of each of them. She also blessed her family with her delicious southern cooking — her delicious oatmeal cookies, her jalapeño cornbread, and her amazing Thanksgiving Day dinners in particular, was a favorite treat and a true labor of love. Peggy was married to her beloved husband, Terry McNeil, for 48 wonderful years until his passing. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Beverly Jo Kendall and Betty Gayle White, and her brothers, Jerry Corbin Kendall and Teddy Reese Kendall. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her son, Jeff McNeil (Lori); her sister, Joy Kelly (Dewey); her grandchildren, Zach McNeil (Shelby), Sean McNeil (Alex), Chris McNeil (Avery), Lyssie McNeil (Ashton), Jessica Ikerd (Brad), Tyler Ikerd (Jill), and Julia Grimes (Ty); her greatgrandchildren, Levi, Jaysen, Rosaleigh, Lorelei, Georgia, and Baby McNeil coming in February 2026; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 pm at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Walton, KY 41094. In Peggy’s memory, feel free to dress in your most comfortable West Virginia Mountaineers, Kentucky Wildcats or Cincinnati Reds attire. Peggy will be laid to rest privately at Battlegrove Cemetery in Cynthiana, KY. Memorials in Peggy’s honor are suggested to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
