Peggy Menke Obituary

“Though I know I'll never lose affection

For people and things that went before,

I know I'll often stop and think about them,

In my life I love you more.”

                                   -- John Lennon

Peggy Ann Menke, née Crosthwaite, passed into eternal rest with beloved family at her bedside on October 3, 2025, in Edgewood, KY. Born on August 31, 1949, in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of the late Farrell Crosthwaite and Cora “Louise” Waldon Crosthwaite.

Peggy’s family began life in Ludlow, KY, but ultimately relocated to Walton, KY. She graduated high school from Simon Kenton. For many years, Peggy was a fixture at the Marathon Gas Station on Turkeyfoot Rd. as a clerk and cashier.  At work, at the grocery store, or at church, Peggy could strike up a conversation with almost anybody. When she did, it wasn’t just small talk.  If she admired something about you or wanted to know more – it was genuine.

Since 1981, Peggy was a dutiful and active parishioner of Saint Barbara Roman Catholic Church. She was involved in many groups at church, including a singing group, Prayer Group and The Bereavement Committee.  Peggy was unconventional, unfiltered, determined and free-spirited.  She most definitely waltzed to her own song and kept time to her own beat. Knowing this, it’s no wonder that one of Peggy’s preferred ways to worship was through music. Her strident and powerful voice could always be heard over everyone else (especially when she decided to re-write and sang her own lyrics to some of her favorite hymns—The Peggy Version)!

Peggy was a caring, loving and empathetic soul.  If she discovered someone was in want or need, she found something –anything at all--to try and help them. While we grieve her passing, we find solace in the hope of Christ's resurrection and the assurance that we will one day be reunited in God's eternal kingdom with her.

Peggy was the dear mom of Tara Tucker, Charles “Chuck” (Christie), Amy (Andy) Combs; she was the treasured grandma/grams of Jessie, Farrell, John, Shaun, Maddie, Samuel and Matthew; as well as the great grandma of George, Caroline, Iona, Linkin and Roscoe.  Peggy will certainly also be missed by her devoted cat Mittens. Peggy was preceded in death and greeted in Heaven by her parents, her brother Mark Crosthwaite, and her husband Charles “Charlie” Menke. Two furry friends also wagged their tails while waiting at the gates for Peggy: Fritz and Heidi.

Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another’s company, and honor Peggy at a visitation on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Hwy, Florence, KY, 41042. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at Peggy’s home parish St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church the following day, Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Directly following Mass, the Rite Of Committal will be celebrated at Mother Of God Cemetery, 3125 Madison Ave, Latonia, KY 41015.

Memorial donations can be made online in Peggy’s name to American Cancer Society.
