Bert Baldwin Obituary

Adna Bert Baldwin, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and love of family. A lifelong educator, devoted mother, and pillar of her community, Bert lived her life with a strength that shaped generations.

Born with a teacher’s heart, Bert graduated with a degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University. She spent her career in the classroom, believing every child deserved a chance to learn and achieve their dreams. A fixture at Kenton Elementary, she taught 5th Grade for nearly 30 years. Even in retirement, her dedication to education continued as she served as President of the Retired Teachers Association, championing the profession she cherished. Just a few years ago, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication to education. Bert was also heavily involved in the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System, regularly testifying and lobbying at the state capital of Frankfort each legislative session. For her dogged engagement, she was even interviewed by the New York Times. Bert also volunteered at 9th District School in Covington, KY.

Bert loved the Bluegrass state. She was named a Kentucky Colonel and relished cheering on her favorite UK Wildcats and the SK Pioneers. She possessed a deep fondness for our nation and loved American history, always up for a road trip and managing to see 49 of 50 USA states, visiting nearly every national park and museum along the way. Civic duty and volunteer work were immensely important to Bert. She volunteered at the Aronoff Center as well as maintained membership with the Eastern Star. She also served many years as an airport volunteer greeting customers as they arrived into CVG, whether home or visiting. She was beloved by many airport employees and customers who share stories of seeing her bright welcome.

At home, Bert’s greatest joy was her family. She was the loving mother of Paula and Brent (Stephanie), and the proud grandmother of two young men, each of whom loved her wisdom and steady presence. She also had four beloved grand dogs, who brought her lots of laughter and companionship.

Bert was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ray E. Baldwin, with whom she built a life grounded in love. Their partnership was a source of strength and stability for their family and all who knew them. Her life was deeply rooted in faith. She served faithfully as a church elder at Lakeside Presbyterian Church and Clerk of Session at the former Brucewood Presbyterian Church. She also shared her musical gifts as a church pianist with Brucewood.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering commitment to others, and the grace and strength with which she lived each day.
