Peggy S Noble Obituary
Peggy Sue Noble (Smith), age 92, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of April 3, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry “Hank” Noble; her parents, Francis Smith and Dorothea Royce; and her siblings, Patricia Catucci and George Smith.
Peggy was born in Beattyville, Kentucky, and took great pride in both her name and her roots. If she ever met another “Peggy,” she would always ask their middle name, holding a special fondness for the name Peggy Sue.
Friends would describe her as a sweet person with a generous and kind attitude. She was blessed with many lifelong friendships. As a young wife, Peggy moved to Independence, Kentucky, where she raised her family on Sugar Camp Drive. She was an original member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where she worshiped in the small basement alongside fellow believers, encouraging one another in faith and fellowship.
Peggy faithfully served her community as a secretary at White’s Tower Elementary for the Kenton County Board of Education for 22 years. She cherished her role and especially loved caring for the children she encountered each day. It seemed Peggy knew nearly every child born in Independence from the 1960's through the 1980's and their parents. She especially loved Halloween, delighting in passing out candy to neighborhood children year after year.
Above all, Peggy was made to be a mother and a Granny. She treasured time with her family and embraced it fully. When her boys were young, life was filled with camping trips, family excursions, and adventures that often included cousins. At the end of those long, joy-filled days, the boys would return home covered in dirt and memories. On special evenings, Peggy would create movie nights for them with popcorn and a shared Pepsi.
Peggy and Hank continued their adventures after their sons were grown, traveling the country in their camper and enjoying every mile together. Peggy also loved boarding a Croswell bus with her sister, Dottie, traveling wherever the road would take them, always keeping an eye out for a good thrift store or flea market. Peggy was a collector of depression glass as well as Bakelite jewelry. She had an uncanny ability to spot their distinctive features, colors, and scents.
In 1986, Peggy became a Granny, a role that brought her immeasurable joy. Nothing made her happier than chasing her grandchildren through the halls of her home on Sugar Camp Drive. To Peggy, family extended far beyond blood. She embraced a large, blended family and often “promoted” close friends to honorary aunts and uncles. Gathering together was deeply important to her. She regularly hosted Sunday dinners, often preparing game hunted by her family. She was a superb cook—perhaps a bit generous with the salt—and took great pride in making meals from scratch.
Peggy is survived by her sons; Mark and Tom Noble, her siblings; Dorothea “Dottie” Caldwell, Phyllis Baker, Paul Smith, Jean Croucher, Melva Smith, and Kelly Bonzo, her treasured grandchildren; Meagan Roberts, Matthew Noble, and Michael Noble, her great grandchildren; Jacob, Nathan, Lorelei, Henry, and Octavia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Please join her family and friends at a funeral to celebrate her life. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY. Visitation from 11:00am to the start of the service at 12:45pm. Peggy will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Garden next to her love, Henry Noble.
In lieu of flowers, consider leaving a donation to the American Lung Association in her honor.
