Bob Ford, 58, letter carrier, sportsman
Bob Ford owned a race car that he entered in races most weekends, and loved hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and playing softball.
"He was into everything. He was happy-go-lucky all the time. He was absolutely wonderful. He had so many friends and everybody loved him," said his wife of 39 years, Connie Perry Ford.
Mr. Ford, 58, of Union, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He had battled cancer the past 15 months.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and counted Thailand and Germany among his postings. He retired as a technical sergeant.
He later worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Ford was a member of the Independence Lions Club.
One of his favorite hobbies was entering a race car he co-owned in weekend races at dirt tracks around the region. Mr. Ford didn't drive in races, but thrived on keeping the car in great condition for his driver.
"It was an almost every weekend thing, and he absolutely loved it," said his wife.
Mr. Ford was an avid golfer and bowler and continued playing softball into his 50s.
He also liked deer hunting and was a good fisherman.
"He loved his family dearly and worshipped his two granddaughters," said his wife. "He was very likable and always happy."
Other survivors include a son, Jeffrey Ford of Union; sisters, Carol Fender of Elsmere and Sunny Allen of Union; brothers, Charles Ford and William Ford, both of Covington, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at Chambers & Grubb Funeral Home, Florence.
