Jerra McKell Rakes of Walton, age 22, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in the comfort of her own home. She was born on November 1, 2000, in Edgewood, KY to Danny and Pamela Rakes. Jerra attended Simon Kenton High School and had a self-proclaimed medical degree. She enjoyed gymnastics, being in color guard, singing, playing piano, true crime, and watching fireworks. She was extremely crafty and loved crocheting, especially toys for her dogs. Jerra had the best sense of humor and the natural ability to make others laugh. She was always playing pranks on others and being silly. Jerra had a special place in her heart for children and she would take the kids for rides on her electric wheelchair, which they loved! Most of all, she loved her family. Jerra (Bopah) was a daughter, sister, aunt, niece, granddaughter, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, David and Edith Brewer; paternal grandparents, Shirley and Mary Rakes; Larry Ewing; and several aunts and uncles.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandma, Joann Ewing; her beloved yorkie, Elanoir Liahona; her loving siblings, Jeremie (Kristy) Rakes, Jauna (Tod) Goelz, Josie (Chris) Wanninger, Jana (Kevin) Burnett, Joseph Rakes, and Jamie Rakes (no spouse, despite Jerra’s efforts); beloved nieces and nephews, Cameryn, Hunter, Hallie, McKenna, Kenneth, Zacharie, Josh, Michael, Stella, Lilly, David, Kyleigh, Gracie, Sayer, Zach, Josh, Alyssa, Claire, Jakob, Kristyn, Aciee, Parker, Brexton, and Leo; as well as many other children whose lives she touched.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 24, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 144 Buttermilk Pike Lakeside Park, KY 41017. Jerra will be laid to rest privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations can be made to the family for a memorial garden for Jerra in care of Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home.
