Obituary of Doug E Holbrook

Please share a memory of Doug to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Douglas Edward Holbrook (Doug), 67, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 14, 2024. His beloved wife of 46 years, Margie Lynne Elliott Holbrook, was at his side at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center. Although his passing was quiet and peaceful, that is not representative of how Doug lived his life.

A country boy through and through, Doug spent most of his life in Kenton County. He worked at Emerald/Dystar/Hilton Davis for 44 years before retiring in 2021. At home, he could always be found tinkering with something or watching the screen saver on the computer. What he loved best was spending time with his “girls”; wife Margie, daughter Angel, and two granddaughters Emily Mae and Juno Elizabeth. In later years, Doug began mastering the art of popsicle stick construction, creating a miniature gazebo and several functional lampshades. Doug also loved music, and had a history of playing a stringless guitar while singing Elvis songs.

Like any good country boy, Doug loved his family dearly. His brother, Elliott (Gina) Holbrook is just as non-handy as Doug was handy, so Doug was frequently lending his little brother a hand. He loved watching Elliott and Gina’s children grow up and enjoyed the loud family dinners when Madison (Toby) Hill, Keaton Holbrook, Corey Holbrook, and Mallory (Joshua) Murphy joined his own family at the table. He was with Margie for so long that her own siblings were like his own, and he was friends with Bob (Karen) Elliott and Jim Elliott since high school, was an additional big brother for Laura Brown, and was a constant in the lives of Marilyn Elliott and Matt (Theresa) Elliott since they were the flower girl and ring bearer in his wedding. For the past 7 years you could always find Chance, a brindle pit bull, close to Doug’s side, and crowding him on the loveseat.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Elizabeth Holbrook, and his "right hand man" son, Benjamin Douglas Holbrook.
