Obituary of Ray Murray

Raymond Michael Murray, Sr. also known as "Cincinnati Flash" age 74, of Florence, passed away December 19, 2012. Ray died at home in his sleep. He was born in Ruthven Iowa on July 6th, 1938. He grew up in Blackduck Minnesota, and married Wanda Wahnschaffe on January 30th, 1959. They later relocated to Florence Kentucky where they raised their 11 children. Ray was a jack of all trades, who believed in working hard and taking care of his family. He was a salesman, factory representative, & business owner. Ray was a truck driver for Jones Transfer for 20 years and retired from Holland Trucking in 2000. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #100, a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge #264 F. & A.M.. Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a story or joke to tell. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Etoilee Murray, son Jeff "Wheels" Murray, sisters Janet Le`Nore and Ruth Murray, brother Melvern Murray, sister-in-law Ruth Ouverson, brothers-in-law Dale Joy and Dale Gibson, and 1 granddaughter. Survivors include his wife of 53 years Wanda Wahnschaffe Murray of Florence; 3 daughters Shelley (Gerald) Roof of Big Clifty, KY, Shannon Short of Park Hills, Shaunda Jo(Jeff) Burdette of Hernando, FL; 7 sons Mike(Donna) Murray of Blackduck, MN, Derek(Carol) Murray of Athens, TN, Dirk Murray of Morning View, Brett (Holly) Murray of Union, Kevin (Diane) Murray of Union, Shawn (Stephanie) Murray of Walton, and Matt (Gina) Murray of Union; brother Steve (Teri) Murray of Shevlin, MN; sisters Cedelia (Duane) Peterson of Blackduck, MN, Beverly Gibson of Blackduck, MN and Carol(Dave) Torkelson of Warroad, MN, brothers-in-law Kenneth (Alice) Wahnschaffe and Norman (Norma) Wahnschaffe and sister-in-law Mary Joy all of Blackduck, MN; 36.5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation and Celebration of Ray's life will be held Saturday December 22nd, 2012 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home of Florence from 2:00p.m.-5:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will take place at 4:45 p.m. with the Celebration of Life immediately following. An additional memorial, as well as interment to be conducted at Summit Cemetery in Blackduck, Minnesota, at a later date to be announced.
