Obituary of Russell Groger

Russell G. Groger, age 88, of Walton, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He was the former Owner of Groger Truck Line and a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. Mr. Groger also formerly served as Chief of the Walton Volunteer Fire Department. He loved following U.K. basketball and the Cincinnati Reds, and played on the only Walton Verona High School basketball team to play in the state tournament in 1942. His wife of 67 years, Alberta Ackman Groger preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughters, Carol Bullock and Barbara Keller; brother, Elmer (Edna) Groger; grandchildren, Eric, Craig, Kristen (Trisha), and Ashley (Mike); and great grandchildren, Tyler, Nolan Ethan, Tad, Eli, Alyssa, & Gabe. Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Walton Christian Church. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Independence Cemetery. Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton will be assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Walton Christian Church, 50 South Main St., Walton, KY 41094 or American Diabetes Association, P.O.
