Michael W. Smith, of Independence, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the age of 62. He was born on May 5, 1951 in Richlands, VA, the son of Henry and Margaret (nee Smith) Williams. Michael attended the Mission Church of God, was an avid fisherman and loved animals. He was a devout Christian that prayed, no matter how sick he was. Michael's greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Michael is survived by his daughters, Berthena M. "Bootsie" Vance and Rhonda S. Smith; brother Paul (Nadine) Whitt; grandchildren Joseph M. (Brian) Greene, Mary E. (Michael) Greene and Brandon E. (Amber) Greene; great-grandsons Tyler Patrick and Marc Juilfs; mother of his daughters and devoted ex-wife, Mary Smith (nee Vance);ex-son-in-law and fishing buddy Joe Green; and his loving aunt Maxine Bowles. He is further survived by many cousins and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret, in 2004. A gathering of friends will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, from 5-8 PM at Mission Church of God, 7851 Tanners Ln., Florence, KY 41042. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the family of Michael Smith courtesy of Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
