Obituary of Jack Kerns

C.S.M. Jack W. Kerns, age 82, of Scottsville, KY (formerly of Walton), passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. He was a retired Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army, having served in Korea and Vietnam, and a retired Supervisor for the City of Charlotte, NC. Jack continued to serve his country after his retirement from the military by serving as the previous Post Commander of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 9488 in Charlotte, NC, and served as Chief of Staff for the Department of the North Carolina VFW. He was also a member of the Blue Lodge, a Shriner, and enjoyed playing golf.
His parents, Lawrence and Hattie Kerns, and sister, Pat Vest, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife (of 39 years), Norma F. Roland Kerns; daughters, Debbie, Sandy, and Monica; son, Steve; step-daughters, Michele, Melissa, and Cindy; step-sons, Billy, Terry, and Jerry; sisters, Ann Black, Jenny Ross, Linda Courtney, and Delores Cheesman; brother, Larry Kerns; numerous grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North of Williamstown, KY
