Obituary of Frank Lyons
Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frank Lyons, age 81, of Florence, was a kind man of God who lived a quiet life of integrity. He will be deeply missed by a family who is grateful for his steadfast love and influence. We are comforted in the knowledge he slipped peacefully from our family to the arms of his Savior.
He is survived by his beloved sweetheart wife, of 62 years, Genene Jones Lyons; daughters, Ramona (Doug) Wilson of Batesville, IN, Angela (Jeff) Wells of Ft. Thomas, KY, Jennifer (Duke) Flaherty of Mason, OH, and Amy (Len) Teepen of Florence, KY; influential "Pop Pop" to Brent Wilson, Todd Wilson, Josh (Leslie) Wells, Ben (Amber) Wells, Matthew Franklin Wells, Jaysie Flaherty, Kelsey (Alex) Heck, Jackson Flaherty, Tyler Teepen (Alyssa Timm), Tanner Teepen, Tucker Teepen, and Tate Teepen; loving great-grandfather to Alison Wells; brother to Ronnie (Cherry) Lyons of Bath County, KY; and "Uncle Frank" to Jimmy (Michele) Lyons, Tracy McKenzie, Jeanne (Nick) Caudill, and Casey (Jamie) Lyons.
Frank and Genene came to Northern Kentucky to begin his teaching career in 1956 at Dayton High School. In addition to teaching, he coached varsity basketball which brought him great joy. He continued in his love of sports and was a proud fan to each of his grandchildren. In testament to his influence, Frank was annually invited to Dayton class reunions. He later became the Assistant Principal at Highlands High School from 1973-1978 and finished his commendable career as Principal at Walton Verona High School in 1987. Frank loved his years of teaching and coaching, and he reflected fondly of his days at each school.
Frank loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. After retiring from education, he became a field judge and reported/wrote for the American Field Trial Magazine. As he traveled throughout the Midwest and South, he made long-lasting friendships with each new adventure. With his lifetime of experiences, Frank became a gifted storyteller and always remained an educator. He loved sharing memories of his life with his family. His stories, his examples, will live on with us forever.
Frank loved his church family and faithfully served 35 years at the Walton First Baptist Church as a trustee and Sunday School Teacher. We are grateful to our God for the gift he was to each one of us and we are comforted by the assurance that we will see him again.
Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Florence. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at New Bethel Cemetery in Verona, KY.
