Juanita (nee Marcum) Napier 77, of Independence KY passed away July 28, 2015 after a brief illness. Juanita was the daughter of a coal miner growing up in Smith KY (Harlan County). The oldest of 12, from a young age Juanita was active in raising her siblings. She lived a life that revolved around a large family. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, gardening, the beauty of nature and watching the Cincinnati Reds. She was an active member of the Independence Senior Center where she enjoyed her friends and the range of activities there including Wii bowling, chair volleyball and decorating the Christmas tree. Most of all she loved her family.
She was a devoted wife to her husband John Jr. of nearly 50 years and a mother whose unconditional love in raising her children will always be remembered fondly. She is survived by her sons Gary (Jayne) and Rick Napier, daughter, Kay (Rob) Butcher, brothers, R.H. (Mary Ellen), Philip (Myra), Bert (Phyllis), Leon, Ray (Darnell) and Fielding (Bev) Marcum, sisters, Martha (Don) Pettit and Alberta (Jr.) Carpenter, grandchildren, Brooks (Dudley), Brady, Bailey and Banner Napier, Shelby, Madison and Jacob Butcher and great-grandson, Ryan Davis Napier. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Napier Jr., her parents, R.H. and Oma Marcum and siblings, Ella Wilson, Betty Ann Marcum and a stillborn boy.
Memorial donations are requested to Independence Senior Center, C/O City of Independence, 5409 Madison Pk., Independence, KY 41051.
Services will be at Chambers & Grubbs Independence. Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2015 from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 10 AM. She will be laid to rest in Independence Cemetery.
