Obituary of Ford Mills

Ford Mills, age 94, of Independence, KY passed away on December 5, 2015. He retired from Conrail Railroad in 1982. He was also a plumber and home builder. In his retirement years he enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He enrolled in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) at the age of seventeen and was stationed in Pineville, KY. He also bravely served our country as a member of the Army Air Force during WWII. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Emma; parents, Harrison and Amanda Jane Mills; brothers, Hobert Mills and Otis Mills; sisters, Bessie Grubb, Edna Gambrel, Mary Smith and Goldie Grubb. He is survived by his daughters; Eilene Wallace, Janas Knox, Debbie Owings and Marcia Roland; sons, Larry Mills, Steven Mills, Phillip Mills and Brad Mills; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence, KY on Saturday, December 12th, 2015 from 10:30 AM until the funeral service begins at 12 noon. Interment will immediately follow with full military honors at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association and/or a charity of the donor's choice.
