Obituary of William Kerns

William E. Kerns, 78, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Edgewood. He was a retired police officer for the cities of Dayton and Bellevue. He also served in the Army in the Korean War. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Elsmere American Legion Post#20, Latonia VFW Post #6095 and a Lifetime member of 21st R.C.T. American Vets Association. He was preceded in death by two children. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sipple Kerns; three daughters; one step-daughter; six sons; three step-sons; his brother; his sister; 25 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Services will be at noon Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs in Independence. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Ky.
