Obituary of Joyce Ashcraft

Joyce Garnet (nee Tomlin) Ashcraft, of Crescent Springs, KY passed away at her residence on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the age of 85. She was born on January 25, 1930, the daughter of Roy and Nina Tomlin. She attended Miami High School in Miami Florida, before receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education from the University of Kentucky and her Master's Degree in Library Science from Xavier University.
Joyce was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and the Friends of the Kenton County Library Board. She was the Past President of the Covington Art Club and a Regent with Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Mary Ingles Chapter. Joyce enjoyed volunteering and did so for 20 years as an ambassador at Greater Cincinnati Airport, as a poll worker for local voting precincts and with the Kenton County Library book sales. She taught elementary school, specifically 2nd grade, at Kenton Elementary, was a librarian at Ninth District School in Covington and was the Director of Library Services for the Covington Public School System.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, Buenie Ashcraft, in 2014 after 63 years of marriage. She is survived by her son, Stephen Dale Ashcraft; sister, Susan McLennan; as well as other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Joyce will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. A brief committal service will precede burial at Forest Lawn
Memorial Park.
