Major Thompson Ball, Sr., age 80, of Independence, passed away Sunday, April 10th, 2016 at his residence. He was a retired Signal Supervisor for L & N Railroad for over 38 years and a 32nd degree Mason. Major enjoyed working in his garden, tinkering with electronics, and woodworking.
His sisters, Virginia "Ginny" Lee Elmore, Barbara Ellen McCracken, Cora Irene Longworth, and Ruby "Red" Vivian Ball all preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Dyer Ball (56 years); sons, David Lloyd Ball (Nancy Lynn Bishop), Major Thompson "Jay" Ball, Jr. (Jo Anne Winstel), and Daniel Lee Ball (Charlene Joyce Cornett); brothers, James Lloyd Ball and Paul David Ball; sisters, Dorothy Bond, Katherine Humphries, Linda Setters, Betty Haskamp, Rosie Chinn, and Patty Rich; and grandchildren, Stacie Alyson Ball, Jessica Nycole Ball, Zachary Lloyd Ball, Joshua Allen Ball, and Kathryn Elizabeth Ball.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with services immediately following at 12 noon at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Covington.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
