Luther Martin Wallen, Jr. "Sonny", age 86, of Florence, passed on to meet our Lord in Heaven on Friday, April 22, 2016. Born to the late Luther Sr. and Mable (Reno) in Benham, KY on February 9, 1930.
He was a retired machinist at Boyd Machine in Detroit, MI for 35 years and a semi-retired independent paper carrier in Bellevue and Ft. Thomas for 13 years.
Luther's hobbies included playing corn hole, horseshoes, pool, watching baseball, but his greatest joy however was, spending time with his family and grand kids. In recent years he loved watching the Gaither's Gospel music on TV and Lynda Randle sing.
"He was a gentle man with a heart of Gold" He enjoyed the simple things in life and never complained. He loved animals and had a special connection with dogs, "A loving soul" that everyone loved!
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia Lee Wallen.
Luther is survived by his daughters, Judy Kay Dirkes (Ken) of Florence and Brenda Sue Woody (Bill) of Bellevue; sister Geraldine of Florida; brothers Jack and Jim McClain of Tennessee; grandchildren Dawn Reinersman (Jay), Luke Woody (Christina), Cheryl Jones (Mike), Cliff Dirkes (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Alicia, Emrel, Tessa, Austin, Cady, Landen, Caitlyn, and Halie.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 2PM until 3PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Florence, with the Funeral Service beginning at 3PM. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
