Obituary of Donnie Simpson
Please share a memory of Donnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donnie Lee Simpson, age 70, of Verona, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence. Born to the late, Harold Kline and Cora Bell (Martin), on January 26, 1946 in Williamstown, KY. He was a good man loved by many. He always gave more than he took. All his life he helped people in need whether it be from cars to houses to electrical items to lake docks.
Donnie was a KY Colonel and Admiral. In the 1990's on two occasions, hurricanes and massive flooding devastated the southern portion of the US. Dad and another were owners of a very small trucking company that eventually went under.
However, even with a small company, he dedicated his fleet of trucks and his own time to make numerous trips to take them Supplies, Water, Poles for Temporary Electric and anything else that was needed. They did this non-stop for weeks on end without taking anything from anyone. Letters were sent to Frankfort about this little company's acts of selflessness. Dad was so surprised when the letters of honor from Frankfort came in. While he didn't speak too much about it, he always carried his KY Colonel and Admiral cards tucked away in his wallet.
Growing up, he would teach his son, Don, to fish, hunt and work on cars. He was beside him always. Whether Don wanted him there at that moment or not, he was always lending him a watchful eye or helping hand when he needed it.
Donnie was always a super supporter of anything Don ever wanted to try. He played Guitar at home before Don was born and even when he was a small child. Picking up his traits, Don picked up the guitar as well. This enabled us to perform in Night Clubs, etc. without any fuss. Later, he was always an ambassador of GenX by rallying friends and people together to help support our efforts.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra "Sandy" (Murphy); son and daughter-in-law, Don and Lisa Simpson; siblings, Pat Worthington, Bill Dunn, Bobby Simpson, Mike Simpson, Diane Simpson, Terry Vaughn, and Jackie Vaughn; grandchildren, Alysia Schadler and Kaila Simpson; great-grandchildren, Airiana, Benjamin, Gabi, Olivia, Mason, and Charlotte.
