Obituary of George Heeger

George Franklin Heeger passed away on Friday, 26 August 2016 at the age of 76. He resided in Piner, KY.
George was a career Naval officer who served on the USS Fulton and on nuclear submarines. He later commanded the Diver Escape Training in Groton, CT where he was instrumental in training submarine emergency diving and rescue. He also taught water rescue techniques to numerous police departments.
After retiring from military service, he worked in the nuclear industry where he helped implement nuclear disaster plans. George returned to KY where he and his wife, Marjorie, opened a successful nursery/greenhouse business.
He served the community by being on the boards of the Farm Bureau, Piner-Fiskburg Fire District and the Kenton County Extension Office. He worked tirelessly to improve the livelihood of KY residents. George loved farming, gardening and spending time with his family. He was an excellent cook who was known for his pies and homemade candies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marjorie (nee Bridges); daughters Jewell Ford and Dr. Alice (Edward) Heeger-Hartman; grandchildren Anna Hartman, Amelia Hartman, Hudson Ford and Weston Ford; siblings William Heeger, Mary Stephens and John Heeger.
A memorial graveside service will take place on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North. Memorial donations are suggested to DAV, P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati 45250 or to Matthew 25 Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Road Cincinnati, OH 45242.
