Hugh "Alan" Campbell, 91, of Independence, KY, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones at his side on September 6, 2016. He was born on April 13, 1925 in Walton, KY.
He served in WWII in the U.S. Navy as a PT Boat Radarman PO3, stationed on PT Boat No. 190, and was an active member of the PT Boater's Association. Alan was an Electrician with IBEW Local 212. He was the owner of Wagner Supply Company in Independence, KY. Alan was a member of Nicholson Christian Church and of the Walton Masonic Lodge for 70 years. He was an honorary member of Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Alan loved UK Basketball, golfing, horse racing, playing cards with his buddies, gardening and raising beautiful cockscomb flowers. He built three houses on his own. Alan leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Dorothy Sue Campbell.
He was a devoted father of sons, Charles Alan Campbell (Kathy) of Aiken, SC and Robert Walter Campbell (Linda) of Woodstock, GA; daughters, Carolyn Marie Campbell of Austell, GA and Mary Kathleen Mandry (Jose) of Windermere, FL; stepchildren, Dorothy Ellen Miller (Jim) of Cincinnati, OH, Kathleen Sue Dixon (Rob) of Lakeside Park, KY, Sara Dean Nichols (Jeff) of Liberty Township, OH and David Wayne Dixon (Angie) of Ft. Mitchell, KY; 17 grandchildren,11 great grandchildren; brother, Harold L. Campbell (June) of Walton, KY; sister, Betty Jean Arns (Richard) of Florence, KY; and sister-in-law, Lucille Adams (Bill) of Villa Hills, KY. His brother, William Morgan Campbell and sister, Dorothy Robinson, preceded him in death.
Burial service with military honors will be at KY Veterans Cemetery in Williamstown, KY on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1 Medical Village Dr., Edgewood, KY 41017.
