Obituary of William Clifton
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William "Bill" Roy Clifton, 80, of Covington, KY, passed on early Thursday morning at 5:45 AM. He was born on December 10th, 1935 in Covington, KY, and was the son of the late Roy and Addie Clifton.
Bill married his love, Phyllis Gay Lawson on October 3, 1953. They were soon blessed with three children. Bill retired from Lion Uniform Company after 20 years as national distribution manager. He was a member of the US Army Reserve.
He loved all sports and was an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan. He was also an intense reader with an interest in Civil War history and was very proud of his Native American Choctaw heritage. Bill was a friend to all and knew no stranger. He had a charm and wit that, after a few words, would turn around the most trying day. Above all, family was first to Bill and he spent his life dedicated to them and to the love. He supported his wife Phyllis in the nursing care center, visiting her every day for the past 8 years. While there, Bill could also be found supporting others, talking with the patients, cutting up with the nurses, and even feeding those who couldn't for themselves. He was truly a generous, caring spirit.
Bill was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Robert (Bob) Clifton, in 1983. Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Phyllis Lawson Clifton; two sons, Michael G. (Marla) of Walton, KY; and Bear (Franny) of Independence, KY; and daughter Pamela Davis (Stan) of Morningview, KY; a brother Frank of Hebron, KY and a sister, Dorothy Chandler of Burlington, KY. Bill has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation and services will be on Sunday, September 18th, from 2:00-4:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, KY. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery on Monday at 10:00 AM.
