James Thomas McCracken, 74, of Knoxville, Tenn. and formerly of Mt. Vernon, KY and Richmond, IN, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY surrounded with the love of his family. He was born September 19, 1942, near Mt Vernon, Ky to Edward McCracken and Annis (McGuire) McCracken. On October 21, 1961 he married Barbara Ellen Ball in Rockcastle County, KY. He loved life, his family, fishing, being outdoors, mechanics, and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Barbara (Ball) McCracken, his sisters Geneva Bowman, Linda McCracken and his brothers Franklin McCracken, Bronco McCracken. Survivors include his daughter, Karen Margie (Anthony) Scrudder of Seymour, Tn and his three sons, James Edward (Barbel) McCracken of Germany, Michael Thomas (Stephanie) McCracken of Richmond, IN and Timothy Mark (Kellie) McCracken of Terre Haute, IN; 7 sisters, Edie Miller of Mt.Vernon, KY, Katherine Davis of Rushville, IN, Hazel Bailey (Arthur) of Fountain City, IN, Rosemary Robinson (Andrew) of Radcliff, KY, Loucille (Carl)Rowe of Blackston, VA, Carolyn Caudill of Richmond, KY, Janet Garrett of Richmond, IN; 2 brothers, Hurhsel Hale (Pat) of Linton, IN and Randy McCracken (Joyce) of Mt Vernon, KY; 7 Grandchildren: 4 girls, Julia Dziobek, Heather McCracken, Mackenzie McCracken and Grace Scrudder; 3 boys, Joshua McCracken, Donovan McCracken and Matthew Scrudder. As well as, his very much loved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Services will be held at Chambers & Grubbs Independence on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Visitation is from 11 am to 1 pm with the funeral service at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
