Obituary of Ernest Bates

Ernest M. Bates, age 76, of Independence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. He was a Custodian for Wal-mart, a member of Community Family Church in Independence, and a U.S. Marine Veteran. Mr. Bates enjoyed fishing and spending time at home. Survivors include his wife, Edna Evelyn Bates; daughter, Cathy Bates of Covington; son, Jimmy Bates of Covington; step-daughters, Judy Hensley, Teresa Spare, and Donna Kenwright, all of Independence; step-sons, Henry Ridner of Union and Carl Hutchinson of Florence; brothers, Winford and Thomas Bates of Independence, and Gene Bates of FL; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs in Independence. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be at KY Veterans Cemetery in Williamstown.
