Obituary of Michael Straw

INDEPENDENCE - Michael Straw, 57, passed away peacefully on Sept. 6 at his home in Independence with family at his side. Michael was born on Feb. 29, 1952 to William T. and Inez Straw who then lived in Carlisle, KY. Michael was the youngest of four brothers. He attended grade school in Carlisle and before his family moved to Independence where he attended junior and senior high, graduating from Simon Kenton in 1970. He studied Art at the University of Cincinnati and earned the degrees of BA and MA in art and music. Michael's passions in life were music and art. His talent as an artist emerged at a very early age and evolved throughout his life. He was a professional artist for over 30 years. As a young adult, he performed around greater Cincinnati as a trumpeter in several groups. Michael also assisted his father, William T. Straw, in the development of the Aristocrat Pear Tree that is prominent throughout the country. Michael is preceded in death by his father William T. Straw. Surviving family members include his mother Inez Straw of Independence, KY, his brother and sister-in-law Bill Straw and Lois Gerard of Gig Harbor, WA, brother and sister-in-law John and Paula Straw of Montrose, CO, brother and sister-in-law Dr. Dan and Kathy Straw of Bayfield, CO, nieces and nephews Dr. Amy Straw McKee, Eric McKee, Gregory Straw, Laura Straw Aubert, Jessica Straw, and Susan Straw, and great nephew Logan McKee. Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of Michael's life at a visitation on Friday, Sept. 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, in Independence, KY (859-356-2673) followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. and a burial service at the Independence Cemetery immediately thereafter.
