WALTON - Lloyd Edward Clements, 89, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at VA Medical Center of Cincinnati. He was a truck driver who started driving milk trucks for Malcolm Oliver of Piner and Mr. Owens of Butler before he was drafted by the Army into WWII. He served in the Battle of the Bulge as part of the 106th Division that met up with the 28th Division that formed the Siegfried Line and was captured by the Germans. He was held as a prisoner of war for 158 days. Upon returning from the war he worked as an over the road truck driver for Beatrice Foods of Cincinnati. After retiring from truck driving he worked for 11 years for the Walton-Verona High School in the maintenance department. He was a life member of the Elsmere VFW Post 6423 and a Life Member of Walton American Legion Post 277, a member of the Walton Christian Church, a Kentucky Colonel, served on the Walton City Council. In 2007 Mr. Clements was awarded the Key to the City of Walton, the Kentucky Senate Citation, The Kentucky House of Representatives Citation, was honored as a POW at the VFW September 19 and was honored by Boone County declaring a Lloyd Clements Day. He was preceded in death by son Richard S. Clements in 1994, 3 brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife Rosemary Northcutt Clements of Walton and daughter Carolyn Clements of Loveland, OH.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Chambers & Grubbs of Walton. Funeral Service will be 11am Friday, January 15, 2010, also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Belleview Bottoms Cemetery of Petersburg.
