WALTON - James Davis Grubbs, 73, of Walton, Ky., formerly of Independence, Ky. died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Hospice of St. Elizabeth Health Care in Edgewood, Ky. He was owner and chairman of Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Inc. and a member and inactive deacon of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Grubbs was also a 32nd degree Mason of the Bradford Lodge #123, member of the Scottish Rite, Former President of the Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky, Former President of the Northern KY Funeral Directors Association, former President of the Walton Fishing Club, charter member of the Kenco-Jaycees, charter member of the Walton Lions Club, former Walton Volunteer fireman, member of the Walton Verona Alumni Association, and operated an ambulance service in southern Boone & Kenton counties for years. He was preceded in death by parents Wallace and Mary C. Grubbs. Survivors include his wife, Janice Osborne Grubbs; two sons Steven C. Grubbs of Crittenden and James Christopher "Chris" Grubbs of Verona; two sisters, Jeanette Clore of Belleview Bottoms and Elizabeth Poore of Walton; two brothers, Wallace S. "Buddy" Grubbs of Louisville and John Grubbs of Danville; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, January 18, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11969 Taylor Mill Rd., Independence, KY 41051. Interment will be at Independence Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church or the church of your choice.
