With most of our clients on one coast or another, a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Matthesius was special. They came bearing gifts of honey, which my daughter enjoys, and beeswax for candles that my wife enjoys. As I read the condolences above I see the word passion, which describes the enthusiasm he had in conversations, whether talking about travelling, bees, cars, or even extruding equipment. He touched my life briefly, and I feel blessed for it.

what describes Hans : PASSION... When we arrived in Florence, KY, I discovered how big were his passions. I remember few of them : sport cars, train collection, travelling, beekeeping and SUSHI. The last 2 passions where for us a new way of thinking. we discovered lots of sushi types and Hans enjoyed to see us eating jellyfish, Tofu soups and so on... he was making jokes on us...but after all we enjoyed it so much and since then we try to continue to eat it. When we were informed about this bad news, we decided to eat some sushi in the evening to think about him and have a toast with him. The second passion was Beekeeping. We almost started with him to learn beekeeping as hans wanted to install 2 beehives in our yard, what he did. I remember him coming with his passat car with a bee hive in the trunk with all bees flying in the car. Crazy guy. then we feeded the bees with Garlic and Corn syrup. what's a strange Honey...We learned a lot all together. Hans , we still have the bottle of Honey you give us before we left Kentucky, the bottle will stay sealed as a reminder of this nice time. Flowers from Kentucky... I also would like to thank you for everything you have done for me during the 3 years we spend in KY. I enjoyed coming to your home to spend some time with Irene, I enjoyed going to the VW dealership to buy our first car in the US with you. I enjoyed working with you at KM even if you didn't want to leave as you enjoyed working with me..... you have always been ready to help us. Sushi Man we will miss you, we will miss your goofy style. Take care my friend....Have some rest now... You disserved it. really !

Hello,
I am Norman. the nephew of Hans.
I could tell so many stories I have experienced with Hans. I remember an experience still as if it had been yesterday... Hansi and I were on the move sometimes again by the car. At that time I was approx. 13-14 years old. We were just again on the way home when we saw a tortoise in the street wheel. Hans said immediately, Norman, we take the tortoise at home. (I was not so inspired; I had to hold them... Hansi found the idea, however, good) said done. We took the tortoise with us. I might hold on them and turned them on the back. The tortoise also did not find the idea of Hans so fantastically, and showed us this first. The tortoise peed in the high curve by the car, on my clothes and the car. We laughed all the time. When we had come at home, the tortoise was already done. Perfect. Just in time
Hansi, you have contributed decisively to it this is my life in such a way as it is. Thank you which I might get to know you. I will miss you more than words can say...
Norman…

Dear Mr. Matthesius, I will never forget the day my oldest son, Norman, was getting married in Mexico City. The wedding invitation mentioned "the Religious Ceremony will start promptly at 8:00 o'clock", we had made arrangements for someone to pick you up one hour before that at your hotel.... I was very much asleep when the telephone rang at about 7:15AM and it was you on the other side. You asked if the wedding didn't start at 8:00 o'clock? So I said YES. Then you asked me if somebody was going to pick you up to be there on time? I said YES. That's when I heard on the phone "Oh, am I stupid!!! The wedding is at 8:00 o'clock PM!!!! jajaja please go back to sleep Mr. Riedel and I'll see you tonight!!!" Unfortunately we picked you up, it would've been nicer if you were still dressed with your tuxedo and waiting. In this case, I would send you a glass of champagne..... I will miss you my friend, Joerg Riedel Hans J. Matthesius, SUSHI was his LIFE

Hans was a wonderful individual that helped our company tremendously over the years. We always had great respect for his knowledge, wisdom, and sense for the next product or technology change. His true desire to help our business grow and succeed helped create much more than just a business relationship. We will miss your sense of humor, your funny noises, and most importantly, your friendship.

Hans was a personal friend for many years. I had many enjoyable meals with him and Irene both in Florence and their condo in Munich. He taught me a lot about the KM equipment and plastic sales which benefited me to no end. We traveled together a lot and he always made the trips interesting while we were conducting business with clients. I shall miss him and regret that I didn't get a chance to work with him after he left Krauss Maffei.

To the family, I am very saddened by your loss and the knowledge that I am loosing a friend and valuable adviser. Hans has been a trusted adviser for many years. He helped many businessmen such as myself with his wisdom and knowledge of the extrusion business and his sense of what would serve us best in the way of solutions to our manufacturing needs. Hans was a giant of a man in many ways, a great husband to Irene whom he adored, a brilliant Engineer, a wonderful colleague and friend, and a big brother to the children in his neighborhood who were in wonder of his many hobbies such as Bee Keeping. We always enjoyed being with Hans and Irene whether at the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach or simply having a great dinner conversation. Hans will be missed by many, but his memory will live on forever. Mark and Deborah Vanderwoude
