Obituary of Orville Haire

Orville E. "Sonny" Haire, Jr., 73 of Independence, KY passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at home. He graduated from Fenwick High School of Middletown, OH then went to work at the Post Office there. He then was transferred to the Post Office in Springfield, OH and retired from Quality Assurance for the Department of Defense. Sonny also graduated from Sinclair College in Dayton, OH with a degree in broadcasting which he used to become a well known DJ in the Columbus, Xenia, London and Springfield, OH areas with the "The Sonny Haire Show" and Vice President of WSWO Channel 26 in Springfield, OH where he was "Lighthouse Louie" a Children's Show. He was also very active in the Catholic churches he was a member of serving as Chairman of the Holy Rosary Church Festival and member of the Knights of Columbus in St.Marys, OH. He also lead prayer groups, distributed communion, was a lector, taught CCD classes and was active in the choir and folk group. After retiring he worked at Dynamec, Inc. of Walton, KY and Mosiac, Inc. and was President and CEO of SONAN Enterprises. Sonny was also President of Toastmasters of Springfield, OH. In his spare time he enjoyed coaching all of his children's sports teams, fishing and bowling. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of nearly 54 years Nancy Presta Haire; daughters Cheryl Middleton of Owensboro, KY, Lynn Strittholt of Dillsboro, IN, Katherine Haire of Norwood, OH, Amie Carder of Hilton Head, SC; sons Mark Haire, Sr. and Michael Haire, Sr. both of Independence and Joseph Haire, Sr. of Cincinnati; sister Nancy Nau of Des Moines, IA; 18 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren with 2 on the way and life long friend Fred Buschmeyer of Fairborn, OH. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 Noon, Monday, January 3, 2011 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home of Florence. Catholic Blessing will follow at 12 Noon also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery of Taylor Mill, KY. The family of Sonny Haire would like to thank Dr. Linda Gooch and the Hospice of the Bluegrass team, Lisa, Page and Jamie.
