Obituary of Melvin "Mel" Whiteker
Melvin Whiteker, of Taylor Mill, KY passed away surrounded by his cherished family on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the age of 79.
He was born in Cynthiana, KY on September 2, 1938; the son of George and Agnes Whiteker. Mel was a United States Army veteran and retired as a maintenance planner for Cognis. He also enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, hunting, fishing, shooting and boating. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his beloved family.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia “Pat” Whiteker; sons, Steve (Lori) Whiteker and Dave (Karla) Whiteker; brothers, James (Meskel) Whiteker and Donald (dec. Barbara) Whiteker; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Mel will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will immediately follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials in Mel’s name may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 and/or St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, KY 41017.
