Obituary of Alfred Ferdinand VandeGeer
Alfred “Fred” Ferdinand VandeGeer, age 68, of Independence, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.
He was born to the late, Johannes and Elizabeth VandeGeer, on June 19, 1949 in Tjimahi, Indonesia.
Fred was a United States Marine Veteran who served during the Vietnam War Era.
He retired after 20+ years from Proctor and Gamble as a data processor and attended church at St. Cecilia in Independence.
Fred enjoyed cooking, fishing, golfing, UK basketball, but most of all, spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John VandeGeer; sister, Lilly Grembowski and mother-in-law, Peggy Blake.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Melissa VandeGeer; sons, Christiaan Jacobs-VandeGeer (Jennifer), Benjamin “Ben” VandeGeer and Gregory VandeGeer (Cristina); sisters, Yvonne Schuster (Bob), Margo Bernhard, Jacquelyn Crowder (Joe) and Velinda VandeGeer; brothers, Roland VandeGeer (Theresa) and Christiaan Baumanns (Cathy); father-in-law, Forest Blake; grandchildren, Joseph, Luke, Edith and one on the way, Bohdi; and many other beloved relatives and friends.
A memorial Mass for Fred will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 beginning at 12PM at St. Cecilia Church, 5313 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
Interment will take place Wednesday, January 31, 2018 12PM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown.
