Obituary of Barbara Claire Reader

Barbara Claire Reader, of Independence, KY passed away surrounded by loving family at her residence on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the age of 82. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 5, 1936; the daughter of James and Harriet Garlitz. Barbara had worked as an analytical chemist for SOHIO and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed Bible study, gardening, feeding birds, sewing and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband, Harold Reader and brother, Commander Jerry Garlitz. She is survived by her caring daughters, Valerie Reader and Cheryl Reader; as well as many other relatives and friends who will mourn her loss and cherish her memory.

A visitation for Barbara will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Burial will immediately follow at Independence Cemetery in Independence, KY.

Memorials in Barbara’s name may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
