Obituary of James Furl Stephenson

     James Furl Stephenson, a resident of Walton, KY passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, KY on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 nine days shy of turning 88.

     He was born in Grant County, KY on February 20, 1932; the son of the late Ferdie and Edith Stephenson. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was known for his incredible work ethic, having worked and retired after 54 years of service at Mead Paper Products/Rock Tenn. In his free time he often enjoyed vegetable gardening, cooking and bird watching. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his beloved family.

     James was preceded in death by parents; two sisters, Edith Bell and Mary Lou Fields; and one brother, Thomas Marshall Stephenson.

     Surviving to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his loving and faithful wife of 64 years, Myra Stephenson; children, Valerie Jean Stephenson, Robert (Maggie) Stephenson and Matthew (Ashley) Stephenson; grandchildren, Joseph (Mandy) Tackett and Robert James “R.J.” Stephenson; great-grandchildren, Carson Tackett and Molly Tackett; special family friend, Sara Hoffman; as well as other close relatives and friends.

     A graveside service with full military honors for James will take place on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dry Ridge, KY.

     In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ name may be made to the Salvation Army, 525 Graves Avenue, Erlanger, KY 41018.
