Dear Family
My name is Pamela Butler Marcum. My father had the general store in Nicholson. Our family were
All patients of Dr. Rich. He was the kindest person. I think my father, John Butler, played golf with
him . We are distant relatives on my mothers side. I like to do genealogy on the families of rural
Kenton County. He was so much fun to talk to because he knew everyone. We were sorry to hear
Of his passing. We have wonderful memories of him and our thoughts are with his family.
Sincerely
Pamela Butler Marcum

Dr Rich was a good friend of my father's, Hubert King. They often went hunting out west when I was young. The best picture of my father is one that Dr. Rich took on one of those trips. ( He was known for his photography back then.) Thank you for making that happen for me. I recently saw Dr. Rich at my cousin's birthday party and I am glad I did. He called me Cathy Sue like always.
He was a great man and a pillar of the community. I am sorry for the loss of your dad. He will be missed by many.

My sister (Nany Collins) and I have the fondest memories of Jim and June. They were a large part of our childhood. Jim gave me my first golf clubs.
I still recall the stories of the hunting trips to Wyoming and Idaho in the early 50s, especially the time Jim broke his jaw falling off a horse that had been spooked by a bear! My Dad fed him soup through wired-shut jaws the rest of the trip!
Another than my own father, Jim was one of the most influential male figures in my life.

I do not even know where to begin to start with this man. There is not enough words in the dictionary to describe how special this man was to me. My favorite memory I have with Dr. Rich was from 5 or 6 years back on hole 17 of Lassing Point golf course. I was lucky enough to play in a scramble with him, His son David, and his grandson, little David. We were about 190 yards out from the green on this hole with a lake right in front of the green. I wasn’t confident enough in my golf game that day to send a long iron shot onto the green, so I decided I was going to lay up before the lake and get on the green in 3 strokes, being the hole was a par 5. Well, needless to say, Doc Rich didn’t like my decision and was quite confident in my game that day that I could hit the green with a long iron. Doc stopped me as I was about to hit and reached into my golf bag and pulled out my 4-iron. As he handed me my 4-iron he said “put in on the green next to the hole, or you’re walking home boy.” Now Mind that I was only 15 at the time and didn’t have a car or license, he had this look on his face that told me he was not kidding. So after all, I ended up hitting a great shot and put the ball about 5 feet from the pin, and Doc told me after that shot that I could sit shot gun next to him on the way home after that! This man will be dearly missed and I thank God that I had the pleasure of knowing him and being close with this family.

My dad, Bud Wilson, and Doc Rich were good friends. We moved to Taylor Mill from Latonia about the same time as Doc Rich began his practice in the house in Oak Ridge. Along with Charlie Williams, and other men of the same age, they golfed, shared jokes , laughed, and enjoyed one another’s company. My dad called him Docky Doodle which Dic Rich tolerated with good humor. He treated all of our family as well as my two oldest children and was a mainstay when my mother was diagnosed with meningiomas in the early 70s. He will be missed. Linda Wilson Campbell

Having your family doctor live across the street from you had its benefits.Jim Ray, as we all called him welcomed each of the Ward kids into his home whenever we were sick or hurt. June and him and the kids, Sara, Jimmy and David were very young back in the days that we hung out over on their car port or picking cherries off of the tree in their backyard. Doc was always pleasant and we loved being around him and his family. One of my best memories is when it snowed they had this huge toboggan sled and him and Uncle Bobby would take turns attaching it to the back of the Jeep and riding the neighbor kids up and down the street. Everyone Doc came in contact with he loved with all his heart and soul. You will be missed, but never forgotten and your legacy will carry on.

Doctor Rich always took care of our family when anyone was sick. Not sure how many shots he gave me through my child hood but Penicillin was the cure all lol. He was such a great outdoors man, he was one of the many commissioners that made decisions on Fish and Wildlife issues in our state and is one of the main reasons we have so many state lake and areas to hunt. There is a large wildlife track named after him. He truly was a great man and doctor.

I had the pleasure to work with Dr Rich as a young nurse back in the mid 1990s. He would walk into the nurses station always well dressed in khakis and a V neck sweater. If he didn’t have a cup of coffee with him, one of the nurses, including myself would grab a cup for him. We didn’t mind because he was always so kind to the nurses. Most importantly to his select patients that were admitted to our unit.
He always had a smile on his face, a story to tell, and was a great teacher to the those newer nurses.
He is the epitome of what embodies a true physician.
My deepest condolences to you and your family.

I worked with Dr. Rich at both Booth Hospital and then St. Luke, Florence. What a wonderful man. He was kind and caring towards all of us, but especially to his patients. He treated them with the utmost respect and loved them like family. Their pain was his pain. He was a wonderful example to all of us. It is sad to see Dr. Rich pass, but how great it is for him to be reunited with his family, friends, and all of his patients, but most importantly to rest in the arms of Jesus. No one is more deserving.

i just moved in september and had the privilege to be the Dr’s neighbor. I loved seeing him sitting on his back porch, long chats about people we both knew, and just enjoying each other’s company. I will miss hugs hugs, smiles, little gifts, and hugs tender ways. He brought such great joy to me and I will miss looking out my windows and seeing him. I will miss him greatly and my heart aches that i didn’t get to have the spring and summer months to tease with him. Such a wonderful person who deserves to dance and enjoy the wonders of heaven and be reunited with his wife and other loved ones. RIP Doc, and forever will our flag fly high in your memory.

Dr. Rich is one of a kind and they surely don’t make them like him anymore. He made house calls on numerous occasions to my house many years ago and he wasn’t afraid to chase you if you need a shot. I was given more than 1 penicillin shot by him under the kitchen table if that’s where he caught me. Thank you Dr Rich for always looking out for us. Prayers to his family!

What a great man!! I truly hold him in high regard and I have the utmost respect for Dr. Rich. When my two brothers and I were little and got sick, Mom would toss us in the car and then out to Taylor Mill to
his office. It was a penicillin shot, a prescription for the bubble gum flavored antibiotic and a yummy sucker, on those little twisted ropes. He was patient as the three of us would pick out our favorite flavor. He always gave me a wink and squeezed my right shoulder. I remember when he would give me my shot in my left arm, I was always eye level with his personalized belt. His full name was labeled on a brass plate on his belt. He delivered me at Booth Hospital and my brothers as well. My heart is broken! Rest In Peace. ❤️ Love, hugs and prayers to his family.
